The Libby area has many attractions for the visitor and is nestled below the rugged peaks of the Northern Rockies and along the crystal-clear Kootenai River. The movies "The River Wild" and "Always" were filmed there. Unfortunately, for years the town and surrounding areas were slowly being intoxicated by deadly asbestos exposure. In recent years, this problem has been addressed by the EPA but the long term tragedy has been devastating for those living there. The Environmental Protection Agency calls Libby the worst case of community-wide exposure to a toxic substance in U.S. history.
Libby is a hard-working, blue-collar community that has been devastated by this misfortune and they are slowly trying to rebuild.
